Woman Suffrage Presentations

In 2020, the hundred year anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, I presented several talks about the fight for woman suffrage in both South Dakota and Wisconsin. These are parallel talks, with most of the national information repeated to give context to each state’s story. Unfortunately, most of those talks were virtual because of the pandemic. Here are links to those to talks.

A Century Celebration: Wisconsin’s Fight for Woman Suffrage: Celebrate the century anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote in 1920. Learn about the key moments, key individuals, and key issues that helped women achieve their equal voting rights in both Wisconsin and the United States one hundred years ago. Learn about the important role played by Wisconsin Clubwomen in the state’s fight to enfranchise women.

Woman Suffrage in South Dakota 1868-1918: Learn about the key moments, key individuals, and key issues that helped women achieve their equal voting rights in South Dakota in 1918 and in the United States one hundred years ago. South Dakota’s suffragists took part in a national movement to convince the male voters to include them in the voting populace. Starting from a sense of injustice, the movement became a massive public relations campaign that engaged more than three generations of women in every single state. And that effort replicated itself around the world. Women understood that the right to vote was the right to give voice to the issues that mattered to them and to participate as equals in democracy.
